File Manager

File Manager Privacy Policy

The app accesses storage areas so you can browse and manage files. Because that access is broad, we set out exactly what it covers. Your files never leave the device.

Before release

File Manager is still in development. This policy describes how the app is intended to work at release and may change before it ships.

What we do not collect

There is no account to create. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other information that directly identifies you.

The contents of the files you open are never uploaded to or stored on our servers.

Stored on your device only

The items below are written to your device storage and are never transmitted elsewhere. Deleting the app removes them.

  • Paths of folders you favourited and folders you opened recently
  • Storage locations you added, and the access permission needed to reopen them
  • Screen settings such as sort order and view mode
  • Reading position and view settings in the image and PDF reader
  • Theme and language settings

File access

The app uses the file access permissions provided by your operating system in order to open files. Anything it reads is used solely to display it to you.

  • On Android the app uses all-files access (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) — the permission a file manager needs to list the whole storage
  • On iOS the app only reaches folders you picked yourself. Folders you did not pick stay invisible to the app
  • Files are used only to show them in the list or to carry out what you asked for: copy, move, rename, delete, compress, read
  • File contents are never transmitted anywhere or copied aside
  • You can revoke access at any time in your device settings

Passwords for archives and PDFs

When you open a password-protected archive or PDF, the app asks for the password. It is held in memory only while that operation runs, and is never stored on the device or on any server.

Internet connection

Everything involved in opening and managing files runs on the device and needs no internet connection. The only outbound traffic is the analytics, crash reporting and advertising described below.

Analytics and crash reports

We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, provided by Google, to understand problems and improve the app. The following is collected in a form that does not identify you personally.

  • Device model, OS version, app version, country and language settings
  • Anonymous events such as screen views and whether a feature was used
  • Error details and where they occurred when the app crashes

Advertising

The app may display advertisements. Ad providers may use information such as your device advertising identifier to show relevant ads; this is governed by their own privacy policies.

You can opt out of personalised ads in your device settings — on iOS under Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking, and on Android under Settings › Privacy › Ads.

Retention and deletion

We do not keep your files or usage records on any server we operate.

Records stored on your device are removed when you delete the item in the app or uninstall the app.

Analytics and crash data are handled under Google’s retention policy and are deleted automatically after at most 14 months.

Children's privacy

This app is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version and its date will be posted on this page. Significant changes will also be noted in the app update notes.
